The Hügles are one of the oldest cherry farming families in the Lake Constance area – in fact, cherries have been harvested on the Hügle estate for more than 100 years. The estate even has its own type of cherry – the Hügle Cherry – which remains a focus of production on the farm even today.
The estate’s location boasts a particularly favorable microclimate. Specifically, the combination of exposed hillsides and proximity to Lake Constance offers advantages in producing a fruit typically very sensitive to its environment. The hillside location minimizes cold air currents which helps reduce the risk of frost damage during blossoming. The microclimate of the estate also influences the maturation time of the cherries: on average, cherries from our orchards are ready to be picked one week earlier than cherries from many other orchards in the area.
Also worth noting, our orchards are comprised entirely of low-growing trees – meaning our trees reach a maximum height of 4 meters when they’re fully grown. This makes picking from the ground easy, allowing guests and especially children problem-free (and ladder-free) access to all the best fruit.
